Flashpacking in Corsica
Is Flashpacking a mad way to travel? “My sister, who only vacations in 4 and 5 stars resorts, calls it locura (Spanish word for madness) and “spending Euros while being uncomfortable”.
Hostels hustle to add an upmarket tag (Boston.com/travel)
“It turned out I wasn’t the only one who had grown up. Europe’s hostels now offer cool upmarket accommodations at bargain prices. There are still the communal areas that made hostels the social place to be in the early ’90s, but now they are matched by posh facilities. The clientele includes fewer backpackers, more flashpackers: holidaymakers with a taste for the nice things but who are cost-cutting in keeping with the climate”. A great list of Boutique Hostels in Europe follows.

Ready to be a Flashpacker? “You’ve hitch-hiked round South America, backpacked across the Rockies, and inter-railed around Europe. You love the adventure, but you’re fed up with sleeping rough on airport floors and sharing dorm rooms with drunken 18-year-olds. If so, you may well be a flashpacker.” The article mention also some very fancy Flashpackers Hostels around the world.

Bienvenue aux Flashpackers
Interesting article in French about Flashpackers Hostel in Quebec. From Google Translate:
The turn made by the Lodge of Quebec is a global trend. This was noticed Claudine Barry, Network Analyst eve of the Transat Chair in Tourism ESG-UQAM, when looked at flashpackers. A category of clients that want to attract youth hostels, offering them more privacy and a more careful decor. “The flashpacker also travel with a backpack, but it is more refined and has a better financial situation, so more resources,” she notes.
Flashpacking the World
The usual Flashpacking definition, followed by a list of Six of the World’s Finest Flashpacking Hostels.

Thailand’s party isle goes chic (TimesOnline)
For a generation of backpackers, the Thai island of Ko Pha-Ngan means just one thing: full-moon parties. Every month, up to 20,000 young ravers descend on the small resort of Haad Rin, kick off their shoes and dance in the sand until some time the following day. Those in the know, however, quietly slip away from the crowds and hitch a ride north into the rugged interior.. It takes almost an hour to cover a distance of 10 miles, but the discomfort of the journey is soon forgotten once you clap eyes on the beach. Although tranquil and secluded, Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi has several attractive places to stay, including two hotels catering to grown-up “flashpackers” and some simple bungalows that cost only £10 a night.
